Was at the local LFS seen a Red and White Checkered Sand Sifting Lizard fish. Anyone know anything about these fish?
Reef compatibility?
How much sand they move?
How deep does the sand need to be?
How large do they get?
Will it eat my corals?
Will it lose it's coloring?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Try to get the sci. name for it would to a world of help. Different parts of the world use different common names for the same animal or the same common name for different animals. Only lizard fish I can find is a benny.

Knowing what you have in live stock is better then "reef compatility" since not all fish get along and they "are reef compatility" IE lion fish and smaller reef safe fish are both reef compatility but I would say your chances of keep small fish in the same tank is HIGHLY unlikely long term.

If that is the common name I would say they move a lot of sand or they might just sift a lot of sand.

As with any fish that get their food from the sand bed is it better to have a deeper sand bed.

It will probably not harm any of you coral but again I don't know this fish.

Again need more info. on your last question. However a healthlty fish should not lose its coloring unless its still young and does not have its adult or end color morph.

Thanks for the feedback.
It looked like a jaw fish of some sort.

I currently have the following fish:
2 black sail fin blennys
5 cinnamon clowns
2 maroon clowns
5 yellow tail damsels
3 green chromis

135 ga tank
250 lbs live rock
3-4 inches of sand
