I think my API Nitrate test kit is off...
Had 10ppm Nitrates, did a 50 gallon WC (mostly because of failed skimmer pump polluting the water)
system holds about 90G total (75 DT, 15 in Sump) Nitrates still 10ppm...
Have the little Dip sticks for nitrite, nitrate, PH, alk etc, and the Nitrate pad on those stays pure white, not a hint of pink... But I know those aren't worth a crap either...

Your api is probably old or you aren't doing it exactly like the directions. Those test will give unusual results if anything isn't done just like the directions. The dip strips are fairly accurate I use them everyday. I would say with that large of a water change your strips are more accurate than your api, IMO.
