I will be setting up a 29g custom all-in-one in about a month or so. I am going to run a fuge with chaeto, and I was wondering if a skimmer would be a MUST item, or just an optional one.

I included a diagram of my tank. Part of my problem would be finding a skimmer, and a good location to put it in the fuge.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Probably optional for LPS and Softies. But why deprive yourself of modern technology. With that 4" of clearance, you have quite a few options: a few HOB skimmers come to mind, also mini/nano skimmers that would fit in that space.

no, a skimmer is not a "must". but it will limit the bioload on the tank. you don't want to overload on fish without the skimmer. 10-15% a week water changes are a "must" if you don't use a skimmer. no skipping or you'll have algae and other issues.
