I've got an RO/DI unit that I'll be using the RO/DI for top-off. I would like to split off before the DI unit, and use the RO water for drinking water. Currently there is a holding tank that fills up with RO water ( I don't have the DI installed yet). Is there a way to have both connected to a shut off valve so it only makes water when necessary? Right now, it shuts off when the holding tank is full. I was thinking about putting the DI holding tank on a timer, and having it only run once a day. Can someone help me with how to set it up so it works correctly? TIA.

Sounds like you got the idea. Put a T after the RO, before the DI. Then at the output of the DI add a shut off switch or float switch.
Thanks for the help. I've already installed a float switch on the storage container for the DI water. Sounds like I'm almost there!

Assuming that your RO/DI unit has an ASOV (auto shut off valve)

then all you need is a float valve on your DI storage container and you're good to go!

The ASOV will sense back pressure on the output line and shutdown the supply.

This thread should point you in the right direction with pictures and such:

good luck!
