My tank has a built-in overflow, with a 1" durso pipe. I spoke to Justin at AW, and he suggested using a 1.5" pipe to increase water flow. However, the bulkhead would restrict the flow back down to 1". Will this increase the flow, or keep it the same? My other problem is that my overflow is only 6"x6". If I go to a bigger size durso, it won't fit. If bigger diameter piping increases flow, should I go to a Hofer Gurgle Buster, or Stockman style drain pipe?

what size tank and sump do you have? that will determine the amount of flow you should be running. the bulkhead would restrict flow. i believe 1in pipe can handle roughly 600gph. that is plenty of flow. to much flow through the sump prevents proper skimming and filtration.

145 gallon tank, with a 30 (when completely full) sump. The sump is divided into 3 parts, pretty much equal, skimmer area, return area, and refugium area, in that order from right to left. Bothskimmer area and refugim area spill into the return area.
