Is there a good reference thread/link here or any place else you would recommend?

Got the basics of what is what but need to know what to use and what to avoid. Stuff like where to use PVC and where to use tubing. Slot or threading? 3/4" or 1".

Thanks.

How big is your tank and what are you going to use for circulation? Tunzes? Powerheads? Close loop? Seaswirls?

I try to use the least amount of plumbing as possible. Moreso always just ballvalves and unions where you might have to change out the equipment, especially the pump area.

If it's multiple returns, then use hard plumbing. If it's just one or maybe two returns, I like to use flexhose or flex pvc.

I have a 180g reef with 3 holes in the overflow.

1 out & 2 return, all 1 3/4" in size.

Have the following equipment to hookup

-sump with in-sump protein skimmer
-dsb/fuge
-chiller
-UV

Sump has 2 ball valve. Going to connect a external pump to each and have one run to the chiller -> return & other is UV -> return

PVC and TUBE is preference.

if you do PVC on the pump, have a small amount of tube so the vibration gets cut off at the tube.
