I'm considering buying Santa Monica's HOG or Surf Algae Scrubber, has anyone used them, and what's your experience been like?

What model did you use?
Did it start producing algae growth and how long did it take?
Has your tank experience less algae growth as the new growth is concentrated in the scrubber?
Do you use a reactor in addition to the scrubber?
Do you run a skimmer in addition to the scrubber?
Do you grow caulerpa also or just use the algae scrubber?
Did it create salt creep, and if yes, where?

I look forward to your input and please share pictures.

So I'm thinking of passing on the algae scrubber idea and just go with the more common option of growing Caulerpa.
Any input on these two options?

I also considered Santa Monica's surf scrubber. I have done a lot of research and can not find much independent evaluations other than from
Santa Monica's website or forum. There seems to be algae scrubber devotees and algae scrubber haters. Independent reviews and testing would be awesome. It seems if it was such a good idea, some of the major reef aquarium manufacturers would have product in the marketplace. It is a pretty expensive piece of equipment to buy on faith.
