Just picked up this 66g tank. I found a great deal on a mh 250w set up. Looking to keep a mix reef with clam, sps, lps and a few zoanthids , ricordia. I'm just curious if this light is going to be over kill? Do you think the spread would be enough to get away with 1 fixture 10-12" off water surface?

I'm thinking of supplementing with leds for a sunrise sunset effect. Any suggestions on decently priced leds. Has anyone tried those bridgelux dimmable Chinese made leds?

Thanks.

depending on the reflector a single light most likely wont be enough... as for to much light, probably not, i run 2 250w MH, 68 3w leds, and 4 t5's over my 100g, not all at the same time... but you get the point.

cheap leds are exactly what you are going to get, cheap leds, they'll most likely start to burn up and or not work correctly.. at least thats my experience. but reef brite, sea star and ecoxotic are a few that come to mind.

You might have to raise the reflector a bit to cover the the tank with light side to side. Given your 20" height, I see no problem getting enough par. Depending on the reflector they minimally cover 24x24 easily, so I think you might be ok raising it to cover that extra 8 inches. Many people also use 250w halides to penetrate 24" without problem. I would set it up and see how it turns out. A 32x24x20 is almost a 50g 24x24x20 cube, which a 250w halide will have no problem covering.
