I usually do 5g at weekly intervals on a 40g system. I have to heat the water to avoid temp spikes and the alk in my WC water is always lower than where I'd like to see it. Tonight was playing with one of those WC calculators online and it turned out I'd be just as good doing a gallon every day instead of the hubbabaloo I go through on the weekends with the 5g jugs. Doing them daily takes less than a minute with a couple of one gallon jugs and I don't have to worry about parameter swings or futz around with turning my pumps off. Anyone else run their WC's like this, past/present/future?

it depends what you are trying to accomplish.

if you want max stability then continuous WCs are best. but this is the most wasteful in terms of salt and water

if you want max nutrient export a single large 100% WC is best. but you might shock living things.

IMO, its as frequently & of a volume that you can sustain / afford, tailored to test results

I've gotten best results with carbon dosing to remove nitrates, gfo to remove phosphates, and monthly water changes.

Carbon as food (biopellets), filter (GAC), building blocks (co2/carx)

Is there anything C cant do?
