Hey guys! I'm curious as to why my magnesium levels have not gone down for the past three months. My last water change was exactly three months ago (Yes I know I should be doing more water changes.) Anyhow, my magnesium levels have been at 1650 since that water change. I have Lps, zoas, a large 8" clam, and tangs. I've tested the levels with two different salifert mag test with the same results. All life is healthy.

Parameters:
120 gal tank
40 gal sump

Mag 1650
Calcium 460
Alk 8.2
Ph 8.8
Nitrates 0
Ammonia 0
Salinity 1.025

I dose Kalk weekly

Thanks!

Magnesium is usually used up by marine organisms at a much slower rate than calcium so it might take a while for it to go down. Magnesium is regularly boosted above normal sea levels to treat bryopsis without any significant adverse problems. I wouldn't worry about it, I routinely keep my magnesium levels this high.

my mag has been at 1500 for the past year. It never goes down and i can't figure it out. But after a while I just gave up and was happy i never have to dose it. As far as i was able to figure out there isn't really ill effects due to it now going down.
