Guys you should seriously consider updating the site software. At least you should be patched up to vBulletin 4.2.2. There are some huge security holes in this site that you haven't patched. I'd hate to see it get hacked - I could probably do it if I wanted to and I'm sure there are folks out there who wouldn't hesitate to bring this site to its knees.

Additionally... if you are ever considering moving to another platform, I have some experience with xenForo if you are interested in an unbiased opinion from someone who has made the move. No, I do not work there nor do I have any commercial reason to promote their product other than to say... it worked for me.

Cheers!

Yep. Sometimes the spam cleaner doesn't work either. Like now, I banned the spammers but it didn't clean up and delete all the posts. Drives me nuts

I'm not gonna bash vBulletin - I used it for over 10 years. But I think people can honestly say the product is not what it once was. vBulletin 3.x dominated in its day, but vBulletin 4.x has been shaky (to say the least) and vBulletin 5.x has been a complete disaster.

I didn't have anything to do with the spammers, LOL, but they serve to make a convenient feature comparison.

Now that I have moved to xenForo, spammers are much less of a problem. When anyone registers on my site, it checks the registration email against a database of emails that have been associated with spam. If the registration email is on the list, it blocks registration, puts the registration into a moderation queue, and sends me a notice email so I can check it out and decide what I want to do with it.

If I have an active spammer on my site, with ONE BUTTON CLICK, I can ban the user, erase all his posts, and report his IP and registration email to the spammer database. I can set up auto-spam filters so that if someone posts something that meets certain criteria (porn, ecommerce, hacks, pirateware, etc) or redundant content across several forums, it moves the posts into a moderation queue and sends a warning email to the poster - more or less telling him that he has triggered a spam alert and if he isn't a spammer to please contact site moderators.

It's just one example...

my forum was ipboard... never had any problems and had a lot of great options like that as well...
A good option. Doesn't have quite the same modding community, but does have a lot of extra products you can buy right at the outset (galleries, blogs, etc).

they should just use what craigslist uses... since 90% are for sale threads... it's been so boring and dead on the forum... everyone is just here to make a buck it seems...

I have been admining sites with vBulletin on & off since early 3.x days. The biggest downfall I have seen is on the support side.

The last site I was asked to do, I did with 5. Talk about so close, yet so far away....

It's bad enough doing even small version upgrades if your site is customized at all. I cannot even imagine the headaches you'd be begging for by changing platforms...
