Heat is coming and im noticing my tank swings at +1.5 during the day and drops -1.5 at night. My question is do i need a 1/4 chiller for my 120 gallon or can i use a smaller chiller? I currently have a mixed reef and i can tell my temp is affecting it

I think you can get a way with a 1/10HP JBJ. Don't know about the other brands. Might take a little longer vs running a 1/5hp or a 1/4hp but it will most likely be cheaper.

Better yet...if you are running a controller then see if you can get away with just fans first before getting a chiller or programming for chiller to kick only if fans are not doing it.

Do you have an apex? My tank has been stable with a couple fans connected to my apex. It's been 85-90

That would be my guess. This is my first summer trying fans.

I put my chiller back on line a couple weeks ago. Plus I have a brand new in the shed for back up lol. It's not worth the risk. Plus, it's not even summer yet, spring just started few days ago.
