I've seen threads about this before but can't seem to find them.
I'm looking for a reliable test kit for the usual parameters.
API? Red Sea? Preferences? Suggestions?

I like the hanna checker for alk, and salifert for cal and mag. I've got the red sea kit but have never tried it.

lowbudget why salifert? What's the run down?
easy to use reasonable price. if you are testing and param are consistent should be fine. i have used elos, red sea, and all the other brand. when we are testing its not really 100% accurate. so salifert is good enough.

Thanks BeanMachine looks like I'll get the salifert, Hanna checkers are so expensive.

I like hanna for phosphate, expensive at first but refills are dirt cheap .
Salifert for alk, cal, mag. The color changes are drastic and easy to see. Instructions are great as well. I bought the nitrate but hate it. I've also done the phosphate salifert, sucks as well.

After purchasing the kits and testing ny water, these are the results. CA 440. MG 1170. ALK 9.9 dKH.
Anything stand out with these results?
I am manually dosing reef energy A and B ( I got it for free from chance of coral salt promo). Just started dosing this over the weekend. I try to manually dose every 3 days.
And I have been using Kalkwasser in my ATO for a month or so now.

After reading some more I found that I should probably just try a water change and bring my salinity up a little bit to see if my mag rises some more. If not I'll probably buy some Magnesium additives.

Like anything else in this hobby, you pretty much get what you pay for. Hanna for alk and phos (for sure phos), and salient or red sea for mag, cal, and optional alk

Idk if I necesarily agree with that. I know tons of people who buy bulk ingredients from chemical stores. They pay $20 for a years supply of additives when a bottle will cost you $20 for maybe a month or two.

That being said I already purchased my kits, thanks for your input!
