does the light have cable grippers on them? if so, you can always adjust the height. but probably 8-16" depending on your preference and how much light spill you're ok with

I think it really depends on your rock height. Most I've asked told me 6-10". I think the proper way to do it is get hold of a par meter and test the par on different Heights to find the best height for your tank. Following the brs videos, an average par of 350 is good. If you are interested I have a ecotech rms 17 hanging kit that I bought wrong. Can't send it back cus I've lost the packaging. Brand new and unused if your interested pm me.

Best to start higher like around 8" and monitor your corals. If they begin to turn brown, just lower the light an inch or so. It's always better to brown out some corals due to lack of light than it is to bleach them because of too much!

Just an FYI. My tank is only 16" tall and my ATI Sunpower 6 bulb fixture hangs 8" above the water line. My tank is dominated by SPS. :top:
