I have a QuietOne3000. It's rated for about 750gph. Is that sufficient for a 80 gallon tank? Return will be about 4' and split to two returns. Will it work?

Definitely will need 1000 plus due to head lost when pumping up to the tank. Any pump gph is rated at the head with zero distance. I say get something that is 1000 to 1100 gph IMO.

I personally don't use my return for flow. I use my in tank pumps for that. I tend to run less water through my sump than most. I run a dc6000 on a 180. I run a refugium, frag section, plus skimmer and biopellet reactor. They all work effectively. Neither opinion is wrong. Just different.

I wasn't planning on using the returns for flow either. If they'd your case, do you think that pump would work?

If it was my tank, I would use it. Save the funds for something else u need now. U can always upgrade the return pump later. On my 100 gal mixed reef I used a mag 7. That tank was 130 total water volume. Just my opinion.

I run a 1700 gph pump on my 90g and would prefer more. I like a high turnover rate in my sps tank. If you do decide to kick up the flow make sure you keep in mind that your skimmer needs to be able to keep up with that amount of flow through your sump. I don't think 750 is adequate though. After calculating head pressure you will be only getting 3-400 gph
