Poor guy has been sitting in my qt for a couple of months. Just can't get a positive ID and want to make sure he's reef safe.

this guy doesn't have the traditional small wrasse mouth. He has big lips kind of like a grouper. I do hope he is a reef safe wrasse.

He might like to chomp on motile invertebrates, such as shrimp, but probably won't mess with crabs, snails, etc. Sessile invertebrates (coral) should be fine. Do you have a cleaner shrimp you can test him on?

haha I do but wouldn't want too. He is definitely an aggressive feeder and loved chasing the flame wrasses when they were in qt with him.

It could be a Surge Wrasse (Thalassoma purpureum ). Looks not reef safe to me if you have shrimps, snails and crabs. cool looking fish, by the way.

Did u purchase at lfs?..what did they call it?..
Thanks Fon, it definitely looks like the SURGE wrasse. This fish was given to me for free when I purchased a few fish online. But it is free to a good home!
