At the moment I can't afford a real ef mount macro lens for my canon sl1. I was looking at extension tubes or buying an older fd mount macro lens and adapter really ring. It seems like both options would require full manual mode. Is an older fd lens any better then tubes with regular lens?

Ether way you may be stuck with manual focus. I personally really like the quality of some nice vintage lens on my Canon.

Check this guy out. https://www.googleadservices.com/pa...ahUKEwi31Km2karQAhUB4oMKHeI5DHQQwg8IHw&adurl=

If your interested in buying ask to see photos of the glass. Ask if it has any defects, scratches, mold and that it is in full working condition. Even though this does not have a lower f-stop you will have a hard time mounting a FD lens to your canon if I remember correctly. Look for m42 mount lens and an adaptor for them.
