This isn't the first brand that i would shoot for, and its description isn't exactly the greatest, but I was hoping that someone might be able to answer for me with experience for this product, or at least by what it lists on the website, whether or not this will work fine for Reef.

It was used, previously, by a Discus owner, but they got rid of their discus tank and no longer need it.

Will this be okay for converting to Salt Water?

Nothing really to "convert" it's just a regular 50GPD R.O. system that is designed to filter water. If it's still hooked up check the T.D.S. if it's not and you're getting a good deal on it then get it. You will probably want to sanitize it with bleach and replace the filters and later on probably add a D.I. Unit.

I mean, convert the ro water it makes directly to salt water.

Is the DI unit necessary for salt water?

Im looking to spend 50 on the system and $15 on the gas on the trip.

DI is a must have. Ro will bring your tds about 95% down. That 5% makes a huge difference to having nussiance algae problem. Also get a chlorimane blocker with the carbon filter you going to replace

$15. on gas! Don't take the Suburban to pick up something so small! Seriously though, It's just a regular R.O. unit. Might be better off checking Amazon and getting a new one delivered. Then you could check reviews and pick a quality one (not saying this one isn't quality but some can be very wasteful) and you wouldn't need to sterilize it or get new filters.

I have two vehicles. A truck, and a van. ;-).

I will go ahead and pass on this then and wait for something better to pop up.

You only need chlorimane block if your city utilize chlorimane in their water system.

San Diego water uses chloramines and adding an FX Chloraguard has been awesome. Drinking water tastes a lot better and my RO efficiency was boosted a bit. TDS out of my tap is 500 and out of my RO membrane it's 2. This is at 90PSI.

here is an alternate question:

if a good RODI system for marine tanks is not good for potability, what makes water from a drinking water store good for marine tanks?

Simple. RODI water will strip your body of nutrients and essential bacteria as it goes down your digestive system making you sick. Drinking water from a water store is passable because it's filtered and hopefully low TDS but shouldn't be TDS free like RODI. Personally I wouldn't recommend drinking store water unless that's the best option that someone has.
