Hey fellas.
Does anyone happen to know the long term effects of isolating zoas and acans on islands within your aquarium? Do they just stop growing once real estate runs out? Or will they wither away from stress because of no room to expand?
Any experience from experts here?

-thanks

IME the faster grower wins. my polyps grew till everything else was shaded and died. then the polyps stopped at the edges, grew larger and chunks came off that seeded the rest of the tank.

reminds me of the dogs in hurricane katrina. all the initial survivors made it to pieces of dry land; lots of animals, people, etc. rescuers only had room for people on their boats. the next few days only dogs were left, they ate everything else. a week later only big dogs breeds remained- they ate all the small ones. a month later only 1-2 pit bulls remained per island...

Zoas will grow over eachother usually until only one survives, but not always. If you have sand or bare bottom they can expand onto that with ease. The hold on the sand isn't that great hence why they can float away sometimes. As far as acans they can grow thier own skeleton to make more surface area to expand. Hope that makes sense. :)

Nice nice! Thank you guys for the feed back.
How about favias? Or platygyra brains? How would they fair or survive once space has run out on an island?
