If you can use nat gas to warm up your sump(s) you would save 5-6x vs electricity, but this would require more caution from you to maintain the right tank temp as well as not burn down your house.

    LA prices
    1 therm costs ~$1
    1 kWh costs ~$.20 (tier 1)
while 1 therm = 30 kWh in energy
I havent done the calculation for a natural gas electric generator, factoring the initial costs.

I view getting solar just for your tank as cost deferrment. And anywho, if your bill is that high, you would need a lot of winter solar.

That's only if you're on the Time of Use program. If on the regular rates, people usually put their tank on reverse schedule so that there some heat being added to the tank in wee hours of the morning when it's coldest.

I stand corrected. Makes sense for the heating aspect though good point.

So what program are you on Jaime? Maybe it would make some sense to switch if you and the fam are not home during the day?

Most of the commercial properties I manage are TOU... and I haven't paid a personal electric bill in about 7 years hahaha but will be soon enough.

Default Seriously? Tanks are killin me.. :/

My leds don't add any appreciable heat to to water. But I can minimize my daylight schedule I'm sure.
Anybody wanna weigh in on minimum full daylight requirements for a mixed reef? I run maybe 6 hours at highest daylight setting between a 2.5 hour ramp up and down ..

They probably send that same letter out to the whole neighborhood just to get them to cut power down.

We are in and out most days, but makes sense to keep lighting concentrated to evening since we are home the most.

No man don't do solar yet. Imo better to upgrade insulation, change out all your light bulbs in the house to LED. And anything else. Keep the AC warmer. Mainly need to see what items are always on and try to reduce their power. Maybe lower the refrigerator one step. Light bulbs for the front yard/outside area that are run all night. Check those return pumps or power heads that run non stop.

The price to make solar cells halves every 10 years. That's the trend.
