so my reef octopus controllable finally died yesterday came home to a semi cloudy tank. threw on my back up tunze. not enough flow. but enough to get the system flowing through the skimmer and sump. i need a controllable return pump because the way i design my external skimmer and sump. I'm leaning toward another reef octopus. i been out of the reef loop. whats good? heard fluva sp2 and 4.
what i want is low wattage, quiet, and not really selling an organ if i don't have to.

we just had a talk about returns at the club meeting Friday. for a DC that is not to expensive, look into the deepwater aquatics pump. Same housing as the M1 and L1s. Do not run them external though.

I ran a Reef Octopus 5500 on my 90 gallon which worked well. I recently shut down the 90 gallon and put a Varios 8 on my new tank. Works great. I've had good luck with Reef Octopus.

How much flow are you looking for? Which Tunze is on there? 1073.020 or 1073.040?

I'm running a Ecotech M1. I have the silicone pad under it, and run a length of silicone tubing in the PVC return piping. Definitely not silent, but not the loudest piece of equipment in my tank. I have a 60gal cube, running it at about half speed with a manifold on the return.

currently running the 1073.040 just a tad less than what i normally run. after head pressure maybe was like 500 gallon looking for the 900 gph. thats the sweat spot for the deltic skimmer
