Yes, you can. It will strip out essential nutrients needed to keep ur corals healthy. You might see reduced coloration, sometimes a pale to paste coloration and less PE. Corals are starving and health is declining. Algae might be temporarily reduced, but if the nutrient source is still there then the algae will feed on that and remain. Overskimming can be countered by feeding more and increasing bioload. Ideally, you balance nutrient import and export and skim moderately.

Yes you can! My entire sps tank turned pale and lost a lot of polyp extension. I've since set my crazy skimmer to skim super dry. Things responded quickly to the change in a positive way.
