Seems to be a lot of JNS sk2s up for sale lately and almost no info on them unless you read or understand Chinese or Japanese which ever it is. These skimmers are of modest size and are of dimensions of many other skimmers and run similar pump ratings but rated for up to 300 gallons. Anything in English raves about these things but they're being sold for other skimmers. How can a skimmer of equal proportions and water/air flow be rated for such a large tank and no one seems to say over they are rated like they do other skimmers? It's just accepted. Why sell such a great skimmer that is small, 9x9x22 and works on a tank as large as 300 gallons? Seems like the dream skimmer.

FYI, JNS are the same as AquaMaxx with a different badge.

Yeah. I get that. Just trying to figure out why a skimmer of those dimensions is rated so high when other quality brands are almost half that.

they are probably ratting for smaller bio load. All ratings are suggestions, averages. A skimmer with those dimensions is more realistic for a 120

Ultimately it comes down to the pump that you've got in there.

Whatever the turnover might be for the pump will be the major contributing factor to the turnover.

The other thing about skimmers is that the amount they can skim will always be related to the amount of filtration actually needed.

If you have a 300 gallon tank with only a fairy wrasse in it qmd macro algaes, a fluval sea mini will be just fine. But if you have over 300 corals and about 40 fish and no macro algae, you're going to need a more efficient skimmer.

It is up to the company producing to define how big the goalposts are, so long as the field stays the same size
