question about rock thats turned black

i left some rock in some tank water outside for a week and it turned black and smells pretty bad was wondering if its still usable?

I would do a full acid wash to be safe

clean it up and cycle it. It's not ready for prime time in its current condition.

i had the same happen to bin full of rock. Soaked in bleach for a couple days then RO for a few days with a small powerhead to provide circulation. Placed in tank right after. No issues.
