I am starting a new build in the next few months. Has anyone tried a split level sump. I will have return portion under the stand and rest of the sump in a L shape sump. The return portion will hold the socks then drains through the wall to the skimmer section which will flow.over to the l shape to the fuge then return. Not sure if this would work.

Something like this? If my link works. This person left no room to contain all the draining down if his pump isn't running. I'd make the last container twice as tall as the others so it could handle all the water that would drain from display and tank above.
