Arrow Looking for a Mantis Shrimp - 07-30-2010, 10:32 AM

I am looking for a Mantis Shrimp to put in my 24g reef tank. This may sound crazy to some but I find these creatures very interesting and fun to observe. If you get one as a hitchiker or see one at you LFS let me know.

I used to have a peacock mantis shrimp in my 55g reef tank when I lived in Florida and I have been hooked ever since.

If by chance you know them by name there is one in particular that I am looking for. It is called Gonodactylus Smithii (the common name is "purple spot" mantis shrimp)

If you have any questions about mantis shrimp feel free to ask me.

oh... i asked you in your intro thread what species you wanted... i have never seen that species around here... over here they usually have lysiosquillina maculata, odontodactylus scyllarus, neogonodactylus wennerae and peacock mantis shrimps... the neogonodactylus wennerae are usually hitch hikers...

but if you're looking for that particular one, you're gonna have to get that dude shipped to you...

Neogonodactylus Wennerae would be a close second. The G. Smithii is more of a hope than a reality. If someone found a Wennerae I would take it. It is slightly smaller than the Smithii which works well for my purposes as my tank is small as well.

nah... my cousin took down his tank, so i had to hold the fish in the sump for a wile... the water level droped, and i guess it just tipped the container over... maybe it was trying to eat it... i dunno...

well... it was a hitchiker at my LFS... i got it for free... but still... i really wanted to keep that dude...
