My question is can I get live sand and dry rock to cycle for about a week or will I have to still add a ammonia source? And does it tank about a week? Or a regular cycle? I have a arcylic 40g that I want in my room and don't want to wait a month or more. Maybe a week.

Your cycle will be a couple weeks at least. Using live sand or live rock will minimize the cycle but you will always have a cycle, especially on a new tank.

My advice is to give it a month anyway. If you can't wait a month for it to cycle properly then this might be the wrong hobby for you.

I'll wait just thought it was fast with live sand. Not in a hurry. Guess no short cuts in this hobby.

I used live sand and dry lr and had a pretty long cycle. Be patient and maybe have luck like minimal fish loss and less outbreaks of disease. Just keep setting money aside for corals cause you will need a lot!
