I have been dealing with a lot of cyanobacteria on my sand bed Brown and red, and brown on the rocks with little bubbles. I turned off my skimmer for 4 hours every night my nitrates and phosphates are very low I have a huge refugium with lots of Cheeto. I took out some of my Cheeto. I used dr. Tims refresh twice it has helped a little bit but I'm a little concerned I don't do water changes but every 3 weeks to a month, because my nitrates and phosphates are so low. My nitrates are like 3 to 5, and phosphates. 03 Does anybody have any suggestions ? I did two doses of chemiclean about a month ago that did help but it's back again.

I have the same issue with cyano. I recently bought marine snow, microbacter 7, and cyano clean. I'm currently dosing now and will update in a couple of weeks

I have been battling Cyano too. ChemiClean works but it comes back soon after the treatment is stopped so I am trying a different approach. I have been dosing 1ml Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) per 10g of tank volume, once in the morning and another 12 hours later. Seems to be working. If you are interested in this approach, put some cyano from you tank in a cup and add some Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) and let it sit for about an hour. If the water turns pink then this will work for you. There are multiple types of cyano and H2O2 only works on non-spirilla type. So far there has been no negative impact on the coral. The dosing should last for 2 weeks. I am one week in and the amount of cyano is down significantly.

By the way, Cyano will grow just fine in low nutrient systems so you can’t starve it into submission. Also, despite what they say, it is not necessarily caused by high nutrients either. Best I can tell it is a bacterial imbalance which allows the cyano (which is a bacteria) to take hold.

Good luck.

Yes, have some SPS. None have been affected that I can tell. The only negative I am seeing is on my torch, a little bit of recession but not much. Otherwise, everything looks great. Today, I had to search for the cyano as there is very little left. I have 5 more days left in the two week regiment.

You still need to remove as much cyano as you can for the 1st few days. I have been lightly stirring the sand after a dose now that much of the cyano is gone. I have been doing what amounts to a 15% water change every other day to syphon out the cyano. Going to do a 20% tomorrow.

From what I have read, the H2O2 does not last long in the tank so if you see any ill effects, just stop dosing. I also read it is most effective at night.

Well it's been 1 full week of dosing algae clean / marine snow and microbacter 8. Cyano algae looks all but gone. The rest of the small patches are becoming smaller and lighter. I'm dosing for 2 weeks and at the end of 2 weeks (friday or saturday) I'll take a picture of the tank as far as cyano goes. Apparently this is the healthiest way of ridding cyano and neutralizing your tank since all you're doing is dosing beneficial bacteria. Also my skimmer has been off for a week and no water changes with heavy tank feedings

95% of the cyano is gone. Corals still seem happy and haven't lost anything
Pls excuse the blue lights as its peak time for my lights to be on.
