I am building a steel stand.
91g
Steel Stand Dimensions 30x30x28
I am aware of the rust issue and plan on protecting with powder coat.

My question is what size of square tubing and gauge size?
Ive seen 2" squared and 1/8 but I think that is over engineered
I think 1" squared 16 gauge is more suitable.
What are people input?

Now my second stand will be for 12g long
36"x12"x 30"
will 1/2" square tubing at 16gauge be suitable?

Typical stands are built with 1.5" square tubing with anywhere from 14ga to 18ga thickness. If you're going with 1" I'd probably go with 14ga and if you're not too confident in your welds then I would go with 1.5" 16ga. As far as power coating goes, it won't help that much. What I've found that works the best is to use an anti rust spray paint. Also for the top and bottom of the stand I normally do 45 degree cuts since that'll close the openings and prevent water or moisture getting inside and rusting from the inside

Awesome this is useful information. I am solid with my mig and flux. But this time around I am trying tig so I want to do 1” I’ll practice. So it looks like 1” will work. It’s half the price for the 1.5” 16g.
I am doing 45 degree cuts for that very reason. Looks like I just need to start welding then.
