I’ll be giving the funds to bts310 and bowing out of the contest. If there are any doubters, I wouldn’t want anyone to have a negative taste in their mouths, I want them to feel it’s fair. Best of luck to everyone.

jose- I for one appreciate you, I am thankful for your efforts, and I hope that you change your mind and stay in the competition. - but either way I respect your decision. My suggestion: let’s not make a decision now. Let’s give it a few days, let things cool off and then get back to the friendly competition. This is going to be fun and im
Bummeout this has gone this way. Can we salvage this and let bygones be bygones, and keep it moving forward? We can chalk this all up to constructive criticism coupled with many personalities - you do a lot for this form, help many reefers and I would hate for this to change things. Just consider it please, I’m sure others also want you to stay in the competition as well.

and this goes for everyone- let’s just play the hands we were dealt and have fun with it?

Anyone able to share what PAR values they're hitting their frag with? I'll measure mine and update this post as soon as it hits peak power in 30min or so. Edit: Looks like I'm at ~260 on the frag rack.

I remember back then when I first joined and socalireefs had the meetings at age aquarium. We all donated 20 bucks a year which help with some costs ect. Why aren’t we doing that anymore? Or even better next growout event or whatever why don’t we just donate an additional $5 bucks which goes towards gas for people especially like Jose and emac and others involved diligently for helping out and picking up Acros for the community?. Just food for thought. After giving it alot of thought. My business is my business and my personal opinion and I shoudnt have blasted on him like that. Aside from that, I get it they all went out of their way, work, family, life to help sponsor this community. So maybe they need a little more than just thanks. Gas is expensive y’all!! Even time!

I believe mine is around the 400 PAR range under t5
This is a cool idea. To see the growth and coloration of various pieces with different par values, tanks parameters, lights...

Anyone have a par meter I can borrow to measure mine? :)

for a bit of context, perhaps it was a bit of inflated expectations. i'd say LOA's stock photo is a bit generous shall we say? i don't mean any hate towards them, blue + orange filter + top down + some editing is pretty industry standard now. matt made a thread on r2r asking for colony pics and the coral clearly varies a lot in color from tank to blues to whites to pics of frags. it looks like a cool coral, but i've yet to see another picture that looks much like the one LOA has as their stock photo, but that doesn't mean it's an ugly coral. it actually looks like it'll be quite nice under whiter light, so that has me excited

this guy has pics under blues and whiter light

and the guy from the first link has some frags

gotta scroll down to J1-J3 for frag pics

RMF site has some unspectacular pics too

i hope jose reconsiders and stays in the competition, i understand if he doesn't want to deal with the money, but i see no reason why his frag looking solid on day 1 should disqualify him

for me, i'm under no delusion that i'm winning this thing. i've seen the tanks of several people in this competition and i'm just not there as a coral keeper. my only hope is everyone else's rtns :p. i wanted to enter just for the sense of community and learning from others. if someone has one that just grows out of the tank or colors up best, hopefully they'll share what's unique about their tank or what they're doing and we can all learn something

Well, I guess I started some drama. That escalated pretty quickly. My bad.

Just to be clear, I was in no way accusing anyone of trying to rig any competitions, that never crossed my mind at all. Since the corals in person were so radically different then the example pictures I really was not sure I got the right piece at first, if the coral was changed someplace in the 12 pages of thread and I missed it, and then wondered if the coral was in light shock, or maybe there was a temp thing? If a coral goes through an event shall we say, there are ways to treat the coral to expedite it's healing/growth. (Potassium for light shock, IME.)

I also don't blame anyone who picked up their corals before me for picking the best specimen they could. I would do the exact same thing, I think we all would.

Personally my coral is still pretty brown, and I have yet to see a polyp. All of my other SPS is extremely happy and my levels have been consistent and stable for 6 weeks now. I'll increase my boron levels a tad and drop an extra dose of potassium in just to see if it helps any.

No one was allowed to pick other than emac ppl. This made it, “fair”, I’m sure tommy can attest to this since he was at Ali’s. So emac ppl saw frags prior to taking them home, which leads to the question of, if there were any concerns, why were they not brought up by emac at pick up at loa or person picking up from him?

for sure. Ali just grabbed it from the plastic bag and gave me the 2 frags I was there to pick up. I didn’t get to choose my frag or anything.

They literally all looked the same. Again why I asked if it was a color up contest.

That is something I was curious about, whether Eric's batch held color better or not?

But I also don't want to dredge up the topic much more and just get on with the competition.

So emac managed to brown them out from loa to his home?

Let’s get this straight tho, I had no choice in what frags were given to me. It’s not like I had a say on what frags were given to me. I gave Richard the styrofoam cups I had brought and he put what he put in the cup.

Now I will admit that I did think about temp factor of corals, and how temp swings can do great damage to corals. So I did take styrofoam cups and my temp controlled ice chest for the frags I got. The frags went in the ice chest with out me looking out them. Then when I got home to dropped the frags in my frag tank still in the styrofoam cups. On the way home I text everyone and said I’m heading home now and this was implying fcfs on the choose of frags. Turbonut was the first one and I opened all the cups and said take what you want. Then justkeepswimming then kinums, and Matt Zang was last to grab the last two. I did the same thing for all the guys. Except Matt he got what was left.
I also only had 5 styro cups so the guys I picked up for got styro cups. My frag was bags just like everyone else’s but mine didn’t have to travel 45 min to oc.

But now sense my name was brought up a few times for browning out corals I will say they are brown. But unless they are hit with a shit load of blue LEDs.

Ok so they aren’t brown, but tan.

But in all honesty all I’m seeing is a whole effin shit load of cryin. God muther effin dam this shhhh hasn’t even started, what is this 6, 8 months, a year long, a whole lot of shit is going to happen to your peoples tanks in the next effin year. I’m ready to take my size 10 turn this som bith sideways and start shovin it straight up some candy assssses.

I guess there’s one good thing about all this cryin, maybe! Just maybe it cut down on the sale threads.
