I've seen a few in my local fish shops but not sure if the price increase is everywhere. I'm looking for a large-xl foxface without getting into the $150-200 range. Seems high, but maybe that's just the cost now? Preferably near N. Orange County.

Thanks

Hey man maybe check AOA in Long Beach or give them a call. They almost always seem to have some decent sized ones in there.

probably looking at that or more due to high freight rates. Large fish take up a lot of room in a box. Best option would be to possibly find one that has outgrown its tank

I'll check them out. I feel like they are usually a little higher in on fish since the "qt" them somewhat.

That makes sense. Maybe I'll just hold out. I'd start smaller but I know my tangs and they'll beat the hell out of anything smaller than them.

How large we talking?

Coral Gazers has a bicolor one around the 4.5 inch mark and Reef Factory has a large regular fox face as well a couple weeks ago

That'd be about right. My sailfin is around the 4-5" mark so maybe that would be large enough with teh right acclimation. I've been meaning to drop in coral gazers for a while now.

I ended up dropping by AOA. I paid more, fingers crossed for the dude. My tangs are asses. I release it with a large scopas and CBB today. The scopas literally put himself back in the acclimation box

Dang bummer on price but I’ve honestly always had really good luck with their fish. If I think about it think they’re one of the only stores local to me I haven’t had deaths from.

Crazy, at least the Scopas was smart. Hopefully aggression dies down after a few days.

Their thanks do look pretty healthy. If they live then it'll be worth the price. So far the CBB has gone somewhat unnoticed and the foxface is starting to hold it's own. I've got 2 mirrors taped around the tank to give them a better chance.

If I have to rehome the scopas so be it. My powder brown went full boar on him when not distracted with his reflection. I gotta say that fella is absolutely beautiful when he's all fired up. He looked painted.

I basically bought two fish I wanted to give the CBB a better chance on release from acclimation. So far it seems like it worked. The only question mark is the tomini started taking notice of him. Hopefully that'll die down after a few days.

Feed like crazy (small amounts of course) to distract them more. They should make a large plastic fake tang or fish you can put in during the process to distract the fish even more. I'm surprised no one has come up with a "dummy" fish for this purpose? You can also print pictures of fish and tape them to the glass so it seems like you added 6 fish.

That would be a pretty cool idea lol. Maybe I’ll some pictures. I called AOA and they were super cool about bringing him back if need be when I explained the situation. I’m worried if I pull him the attention may turn to the CBB.
Fox face is fat but he’s just been pacing the glass. Hopefully he settles in to tank life soon. Nobody is really messing with him now though.

So are you doing any kind of QT or tank transfer procedure? Or just acclimate and release from good LFS? I don’t know too much about QT, but seems like a lot of people are doing it. Or buying from places that already QT and paying the premium.

Not really. I used to be really strict about QT'ing fish but I never QT'd corals for the 76 day duration. I had really good success with QT for a while but for some reason my luck changed and I kept killing fish that appeared fine to me so I stopped that process. Felt like a slaughter house. I also felt I was putting them through extremely stressful meds like copper just to reintroduce them to a tank where coral was not qt'd for 76 days. Add to that extra time, costs and space of the qt and I got burnt.

I focus more on offering lots of quality food and boosting their immune system that way. LRS and Rod's Reef are my main foods. If mysis or brine I soak in selcon. I normally freshwater dip new additions to look for flukes but haven't done that on the last few out of laziness. I haven't had much issue treating for internal parasites in the DT with metro/focus.
