Yea I have this problem too. Just when I didnt think my tank can do any worst. Ive read on RC that mexican turbo snails should do the trick. Any body have experience with this algae?

I have had great success with baja hermit crabs. They love the stuff. I have approx 1 per gallon. I do not have any snails due to a large worm and a large crab that both love to eat them.

The mexican turbos and hermits seem to like that stuff. Funny though that at least 6 people I know have had outbreaks of that stuff recently.

I recently had that algae. Manually sucked it off during 2 water changes.
That took care of it...... not sure if it was the removal or the fresh water change...........But its all gone

It's a really weird algae. I took a snapshot of it with my phone and had it ID by people in RC but no one has a definate ID. I've never seen anything like it. Mike I have a feeling that you got this from the scripps water that you used to do your big water change, or have you had these already before the big WC? Try a seahare, verocious algae eater, the only thing that those won't touch are bryops.

Not sure if its the same algae because I did try siphoning it but it seems to have root itself in the rocks.

Honestly I dont remember having it prior to the big water change. And I have not added anything for months. Something must have caused it to break out like crazy...

As it did for me! Front and center! Some remained for about 2 weeks. Thing is... I have No algae. I need to feed my snails and hermits, so maybe it just can't survive in my tank.
Looked exactly the same, but who knows. Worried me for a bit.... was creeping in on my ricks.........

Yup ive got the red turf algae too. I added 9 mex. turbos and they are working day and night scraping the rock clean. Until this point It had infested my entire aquarium from the rocks to the walls to the pwerheads. It seams to spread and snuff out the corraline algae below because the areas where the turbos have been are left completly bare.

Not sure if it will work the same, but there was an article a while back about combating types of bryopsis with higher Mg dosing. I gave it a shot when I had some problem hair algae and cyano and it all started withering away. Within 4 days it was practically gone and a week later it was completely gone. I brought my Mg level up to 1500 and kept it there for the week before my usual water change. I know in the thread over on RC there were some who disputed this practice as only working for Bryopsis but I can say it worked for me on these other algae and cyano outbreak. I haven't heard of anyone suffering any adverse effects so it might be worth a try.

My mag level did drop from 1500. Ill raise it to see if it makes any difference
