menso...

you're doing it wrong... you're supposed to get fish, quarantine them and cure them to boost their immune system... that way they're bullet proof...
hey genius, have you not seen my thread with a regal and 2 clowns in qt right now? yes the same one you posted on..lol..I now believe in qt but I couldn't pass up a friggin pair of red mandarins that are eating prepared foods as well as pods. Unfortunately they sent me the wrong 2. It's cool though, I will see what they say on monday and take it from there. :thumb:

the fine art of collecting rare fish... nice.

you're not alone. If you've noticed on liveaquaria, expensive fish ($500-1000) go pretty quickly!

It's funny because it's all relative...for some people paying 160 bucks on a pair of mandarins is a lot and I thought it was a lot as well but didnt have a problem paying that for the fish i wanted..now ask me if I would pay 1500 for a conspic angel or even 800 for a candy basslet (carmabi)...hell to the nah..now THAT'S too rich for my blood..:adore:

true, true... but as this hobby is so addicting...

in a few years can I stop by your pad to see your conspic angel, gem tang, candy basslet pair, albino platinum Arawana, and god knows what else?

Update Time!

So I just called and spoke with LiveAquaria rep...they are calling the fish farm warehouse and will have a supervisor call me back because the rep said she doesn't know if a "pair" is meant to be one male and one female or just two fish. So now I have to wait and hope something good comes of this because I would hate to have any bad feelings towards a company I have been dealing with for about 4 years with nothing but great experiences.

I sincerely hope the supervisor doesn't tell you that... good luck man.

thanks Cody, she said she would think it would be one male and one female but she will have the sup confirm and call me back. she was very pleasant and apologetic so that always makes things a bit better. i'm not upset at all at this point, just hopefull something good comes of this.

armando, i don't think these two would be happy to tie the knot..they really can't stand each other..on the other hand, they do fight like a married couple

So the supervisor just called me back and they want pictures of the dorsal fins of both fish to verify that both are male. So I will do that tonight and email the pictures to them and go from there.

Pics

Sent them the pictures and now waiting for a response.

Interesting is that the larger male has a dorsal fin that falls/lies to the right of his body and the smaller male's dorsal fin falls/lies to the left of his body. Sorry about the crappy pics.

Larger male

Smaller male

man they are beautiful!!!!!

hey btw mandarins are usually disease resistant right?

I have heard that but not quite sure. But at this point, since my tank has been fallow for over 6 weeks, when these guys went in, they have remained very healthy and no signs of any illness. Eating well too.

no... i have read cases of them getting ick... but it has to be in a tank with a major infestation... but it's very rare... they are one of the hardiest and disease resistant fish available... but they're just hard to feed...

the males have a way taller dorsal fin than the females... also the size of them... males are huge... females stay small...

check it...

gorgeous pictures...

but older males fin will sometimes hang over to the side because it's so big... females just keep it short... very simple...
