Still exploring my options.. If I cut a few holes in my canopy ( :a36:) to mount the AI Sols LENGTHWISE onto my canopy how will my coverage be? They would have to be about 6 inches from the water, and the tank is 48"L X 15"W X 18"D. Could I get away with just 2 of these depending on the optics used? If anybody has 2 mounted on a 48 in tank I would love to see a pic if possible.. Thanks!

I still think you'll be ok. Your tank isn't that deep. I currently only have 1 ai vega lighting my 38x24x20 tank.

I have 2 ais over my 48inch long tank. I have my lights much higher than 6 inches...i think its about 12 inches from the water? Maybe more?

Either way...you can space the lights out and inbetween the lights (areas that get less light) you can put chalices or any other coral that doesnt need crazy intensity.

I am ashamed to put up pics of my tank so ill pass.

I have 3 sols over my 5 ft tank. I think you should be ok but you might have shaded parts by the edges.

Ya, that's what I am worried about.. I have spent the morning searching for pics of 2 units on a 48 ..hung low.. talk about an effort in futility! I would hate to invest in these and find that I end up with 2 spotlights in my tank :/

If you mount them sideways I think it should work. Then just save for a third one and flip them when you get it

That would work..except for I will be cutting out the holes in the canopy to mount the 2 units 6 in above wl. So if I go with AI , I will have to stay with 2... not to mention I can't justify spending around 12 bills on lighting. If 2 won't work , I will prob have to suck it up and move on I think... :(

Thanks for the tip! .. Just checked out their Photon 32.. it's 32 in long.. and is under 450! I just called to find out about spread on a 6 in high mount ...hopefully they call back soon. It looks promising ..as long as the quality isn't lacking :)
You should check out the Reefbreeders fixtures. 2 fixtures will cost you less than an AI Sol.

Jhuneke, quality doesn't lack @ Reefbreeders. Excellent fixtures. Lots of members here will vouch for them as well.

I have 2 value fixtures over a 4 ft tank. They get great coverage. They will add optics according to the tank length and height from the water if you let them know what you're working with. You sound very excited to get the lights going, so fyi if you go with reefbreeders it might take a month+ for you to receive them

Thanks.. I am pumped for sure! it will be hard to wait.. but if it is the coverage etc I want then it is gonna be worth it. I would love to use the one photon 32 . I will be having to cut out the space in my canopy lid, and then build a wood box/trim around it to frame it. The lid is under 5 ft at the top..so I don't want to stare at the black box every time I walk by. If I have to use two 120 panels it will be alot more cluttered looking to cover them.. as well as twice the work! lol :)

im thinking one 32 might be pushing it at 6 inchest depending on what you have in the tank. two 24s for the win if you want them programmable but im pretty happy with my value fixture.
