So I did a search on this and found a lot of related threads but I'm still curious on your thoughts.
I did my maintenance today on my Carbon reactor and it was a pain. Just plain frustrating kind of morning. So I've read quite a lot of you are running carbon as needed and in many cases just using a ChemiPure type product or carbon in a bag in the sump. How is this working for you?
My sump has a GFO reactor and I've been running the carbon through another reactor pinched between two sponges at full flow. No problems really, other than the carbon reactor takes up room and as mentioned, is a pain in the *** when I need to do maintenance or replace the carbon.
I'm thinking of just dropping a bag of some carbon based product into my overflow section of my sump, before the socks, getting rid of the carbon reactor, and just seeing how it goes. Everything in the tank is doing well (With the exception of a Purple Stylo), and my numbers are all in check.
I could always go back to the reactor if I find it becomes a problem. What carbon product do you guys use? Plain old carbon in a bag, ChemiPure, ChemiPure Elite, ChemiPure Blue? Something else?
130 total water volume, medium bio-load, mixed reef but mostly SPS.
Your thoughts and patience with these dumb questions are always appreciated.
