I need to add a wrasse to my tank, saw a few un-welcomed guests that need permanent eviction!! Seems like they're all jumpers, has anyone had good success with a particular wrasse on a rimless tank??

I had red corris wrasse, harlequin tusk, yellow wrasse paddle fin wrasse, green seaweed wrasse and small dragon wrasse in a 125 long with no cover ever and they never jumped... I have to say red corris is the best at least mine loved to hunt bristol worms and any other unwanted in the tank

They are all jumpers it is just a matter of time.
And it's not only that they are all jumpers... it's also that they will somehow find a way to find any small openings in your cover :(

I went on vacation and had to cut a 1.5in square hole in my cover so i could insert a funnel for my autofeeder. Came back from vacation and meant to replace the mesh, but never got around to it thinking it's so small, the odds are slim he'd get through.

Fast forward a few months and I come home, notice a faint smell from somewhere behind the tank and low and behold, one dead expensive fish :(

Still not a deterrent for me though. Just biding my time until a nice replacement shows up on diver's den :)

It's not really a matter of if they'll jump it's a matter of when. Weather it's someone in the tank or someone or something outside of your tank. I mean you can risk it and it may work for a month or a year and then the day will come you have company over and a 3 year old will walk up to your tank smack the front yell fishy fishy and your wrasse goes to heaven.

Wrasses are jumpers like most gobies and blennies are, but I've actually had success with leopard wrasses. I've had one for about 6 months in an open top 50 gallon starfire and not an issue. I'm actually trying to sell him in a few weeks when I break down my apartment to move down the street... gonna start over.

Is it a male or female? I'm tempted in either a potters or blue star wrasse

If I were to gauge wrasses as far as jumping... fairy wrasses are more prone to. But like others said all it takes is an aggressive fish and they will. Leopards do pick on the rocks to forage and what not. Just know if you get a potters you may go through a few before you get one to live long term. So that 40 fish will actually be a 160 dollar fish you know? Definitely pick one thats already eating at the shop you buy it from.
