I can't figure it out. About a month ago my leopard wrasse vanished. I just figured in my large tank and with a fish that tends to just disappear oh well. About 2 weeks ago my moorish idol that I had for about a month vanished. Again, a fish that can just up and die and given my large tank couldn't find it. But today my female crosshatch trigger has vanished . Iv scoured the tank and not a sign of her:( needless to say im devastated. Anyone have any thoughts? All three fish that disappeared ate everything and very healthy. I have no predatory species such as lion eels and what not. I have many small fish that have been around much longer so who knows......

If they died I'm sure hermit crabs got to them pretty quick. That's weird though your large fish are disappearing and the small are fine.

I have seen them jump, and a fish that size you should smell? Do you have a ORP probe? If yes it will dive when a large fish dies and stay down much longer than a feeding trend. The graph on a Apex should pick it up and a reason to own one. Sorry to hear that he is missing. If you find the bodies it may give a clue where the pest lives and pulling out the rock and dipping in fresh water will get them to come out of their hiding place.

Honestly, unless it died in plain view..you won't see them before the bristle worms feast on the carcass..happens to everyone that has the Bermuda triangle fish disappearances..

Did you QT the new fishes? Maybe they brought something into your tank. Maybe a mantis shrimp as well. I would think you would find a body or part of one though since they were such big fish. I dont think hermit or nassarius would eat a moorish idol or trigger so fast you couldnt find a body.
