I bought this rainbow acan 5 days ago and placed it at the bottom of my tank. Is the skeleton starting to show on the heads on the left (red arrows)? Is it deflating since it seems more jagged? The heads on the right seem fine. The other acan I got seems to be the same from when I bought it and is also on the sand bed.

Here are all the specs.
28 gallon nano cube
89 watt LEDs
Ammonia - 0
Alkalinity - 9.6
Mg - 1420
Salinity - 1.025

I need to test nitrates and my Ca test kit hasn't arrived yet.

Is this fine or any ideas? Just want to make sure

I would stick it in the shade

So too much light actually? I thought my 89w would be just barely enough. Would moving it to shade kill it off or would I have to keep moving it back and forth?

Could be a flow issue too? I have some acans that are plump on one side of the tank but withdrawn on the other side of the tank.
So I have a wave maker that oscillates two return pumps on the left and right. And then a powerhead pointed slightly above the acans. It might be pushing the water against the wall and then back into the right side of the acan, but that's just kind of a guess.

I'm still researching to see if this is an issue.

I can keep an anemone in a 10 gallon, but I can't keep acans for the life of me. Isn't it ironic?
strangely i read somewhere that they were one of the beginner SPS to start with...

oh and some other info, they are at least 6 inches from other corals. so i don't think they're getting stung.

What other corals are close that you think may be stinging it? Not all corals sting.

Acans are large polyp stony coral - LPS. Mine like low medium flow and lower light. Move it close to your Acans that are doing well. Try spot feeding it with pellets. Feeding them always help

the only other things are a zoa frag of armor of god and then an aussie micro acan, both about 6-7 inches away from it. the aussie micro is doing well, so maybe i'll move it over. they're both on the sandbed, but perhaps it has a little more/less flow.

my follow up question is does the acan actually look like it's deflating to you guys? is that the pointy skeleton starting to show??? i maybe over analyzing, but i'm also trying to be ahead over anything that goes wrong.

It looks deflated to me but mine does that every night. During the day though it's nice and fluffy.

yea that's what it looks like during the day though which has got me a little worried. the right side and bottom look pretty ok, it's just the left side that looks worse. any other thoughts? it's like, too much light or too little light, too much flow?

I had some that were recently doing pretty good (medium tank, medium flow), but I didn't like the spot. So I moved it lower in tank, but apparently higher flow cause it just never opened up. Then....my potters angel ate it.

i'm beginning to wonder if i'm just freaking out over nothing. this is my first LPS coral

Here's a pic from the top. Does it look fine to you? Just looked spikier to me than when I picked it up. If you do acclimate it in shade for how many days do you do that for?
