No. They figured "everybody already has one" or they can use their phones or tablets but there is a new display to buy as an add-on, less than $100 now.
Ok, so what happens when there is a power outage and I have my tank running off a generator (but not my router/modem). You wont be able to connect to the new apex/fusion to be able to shut down lights and other pumps/reactors that don't have to be running during that time
They're smart. If they made it backwards compatible, then the majority of the people would only buy the new EB832 instead of the complete shiny package. It's all about the money. $800 is a lot of money especially if you already own the Apex Classic. Is there enough innovation in this upgrade to motivate Apex Classic users to do a complete upgrade?

It creates its own wifi so, yes, you can connect without your home router running. (Assuming your at home.) If you were not at home, you'd be screwed either way.

I see your point. But things break, especially when there are more parts crammed into one unit. So, they would eventually need to sell them separately, I would think.
Since I just bought the gold, not even opened yet. Having those two things would allow me to "upgrade" at a lower price.
Adding the salinity port is really a gimmick, the actual probe for it is super expensive, $125. Salinity is pretty stable unless you're making drastic water changes to your tank. I just don't see a point.

The best thing to me about this new apex is the announcement for ios/android app. I hate using fusion on my phone, it just doesn't work right. and the app will work with classic apex also.

i feel the same way. I don't see the need in monitoring salinity through the apex. If you use an ATO (I think most people do) the salinity level stays pretty even. I check mine about once a week after my water change.
It seems cool. But I don't think it would be worth it for anyone to upgrade. I'm not going to ditch my apex for the new one. Does anyone know when the IOS is coming out??
