Hey guys hopefully we can get this thread going and give our beloved wrasses a brief spotlight on a weekly basis.
Here is one of my favorite wrasses which I don't see in trades very much. Had him for 2 years.
The earmuff wrasse part of the halichoeres family. Amazing colors with green, pinks, yellow around the head. Mild tempered, active and has left my shrimps alone.

I use to QT but I actually had more issues while in QT then just keeping them in a separate in my main display. I know, I'm a terrible person but in a smaller QT I had a lot of issues with stress, difficulty keeping ammonia levels low when trying to get things to eat, etc. Also, when buying more than 1 fish every 8 weeks you either have to start the process all over again or set up a separate QT, don't have time or space for that.

When considering a new fish I have a few hard and fast rules that I stick to 90% of the time which is:
Does the fish
  1. Have any questionable physical irregularities?
  2. Have any visual display potential diseases or is it doing things like scratching?
  3. Appear active and alert?
  4. Eat something (typically mysis)?
  5. Display interest in food even if it doesn't actually eat it?
  6. Have tankmates displaying any physical irregularities, visually displaying potential diseases or doing things like scratching?
  7. Have a tank that is connected to other tanks with the same filtration that contains fish displaying any physical irregularities, visually displaying potential diseases or doing things like scratching?

Usually if the answer to all of these is no, I buy the fish. I will make exceptions on some of these items but typically not.
