I had both large and small cell amphidinium. I tried UV, blackouts, H2O2, bacteria, dosing NO3/PO4, and removing all the sand but still had dinos. Dosed silicates and it worked.
that's how I lost my first fish. I use a glass lid that covers 95% of the tank with small gaps for wires, light mount, and air. Still found the yellow watchman goby dried up the next morning. Been in the tank for less than 24 hours.
Also having an outbreak of bubble algae. Been battling one algae after another since I started my first reef tank. Diatom>byopsis>hair algae>cyanobacteria and now currently have dinos and bubble algae. Haven't been able to just sit back and enjoy my reef tank.
I had a tank running for about 8 months and decided to restart after being overrun with branching/digitate hydroids. Nuked my tank with fenbendazole. Instructions online said to leave it for 30 hours, I left it in the system for 3 weeks (really wanted to get rid of hydroids). The corals, fish...
My tank was around 84 today, soft coral and most LPS survived (lost an alveopora). Another tank at 88, it's an empty tank with just feather duster and spirorbid worms. Both survived.
I've kept mine at 76 for awhile. Didn't see any negative effect. It's now set at 78. I don't want to risk losing corals jumping from 76 to 82 degrees everyday.
Thanks, I'll look into Bayer. Been having a lot problems with digitate hydroids ever since it came with a frag. I don't want to add any more pest to my tank.
