It is bulbs replacement day on my EZ550reef!
Replacment of the 6x T5 bulbs should have been done long ago.
4x were 9.5 months old
2x were 14 months old
I saw the colors of the corals on the bottom slowly deteriorate for a few months. This process had been going on for more than 3 months. In accordance with the requirement to replace the lamps every 6 months at SPS corals.

Such a beautiful reef @glennf!

How the heck do you maintain flow with colonies that thick and high? What pumps are you using for in tank flow?

Yes it's a real challenge to manage flow with colony's this large and this coral density.
A consumption of 4,85 dkh per day is absurd high.

Imagine what would happen if you stop dosing.
The Alk would drop more than 4 dhk per day

Flow is limited by the coral mass, so cyano is always lurking.

I use a CP55, OW8 and a tunze ejet 3005 for flow.
To optimize on flow i have them on timeintervals

I use this as a base : http://www.DSRreefing.com/stream

That is insane uptake!

I'm thinking if adding a few jebao to my flow line up for directional flow. I'll probably try the OW or SOW (newer) and see how it holds up.

Great work & pics

It's always a puzzle to get the right flow.
To much blow away the sand
To low means dirt deposition and cyano.
Once in while you need to re-evaluate flow, because of the increase in the coral colony's.
The corals also need flow to move nutrients and waste products.

I was quite annoyed bij the histrix
To much work cleaning the front window also space, flow and light limitation due to this massive coral.
It was time for a small rescape.

How fast do coral grow?
In this timelime you can see how a small frag of the staghorn coral has grown up to the surface, cut down and again grew back to the surface within a few months.

It's been a while ago that i posted on forums.
It seems like i lack inspiring material.
Beside that, the warmer the season becomes the more my attention shifts towards my other hobbies.
I am very passionate about many things that involves toys with speed and engines.

It has been a while since my last posting.
Summertime is my time for outdoorsports and activities.

The reefs are cruising on autopilot and i regularly clean the windows/skimmer/powerfilter and fill up the dosing containers. Nothing exciting...

While working on my rooftop is had a surprise visit from some german reefing friends.
They were totaly surprised by the growthrate of my EZ550reef and posted this movie.
It's in german but Youtube has a function which can translate into english subtitles.
