Absolutely love this tank bro i have a 36” dual 250w SE halide/t5 giesemann I have sitting in the garage just waiting for the perfect tank for it

Have you considered putting reef brites on the side of the fixtures
I have considered it but it’s the first thing you see when you walk into my house. The Giesemann just looks to nice.

I am passively looking for the aquaeuro 60” T5/LED retrofit lamps. I really like the way the Giesemann looks but do like the LED pop for the stupid overpriced tenius corals that are only worth $500/inch under LED

Looking great, direct sun is a + for sure. Man those gangs are XL. Do your feed whole nori sheets at once or what? ;)
Yea, they eat nori from my hand and the vlamingi insists on being petted every time my hand is in the tank. He is like a yellow Labrador except he is a fish.

Summer is coming and I don't want a chiller. My first attempt at fan cooling on this tank was over the sock section in the sump, it didn't cool enough so I set off to build an Air Gyre. It doesn't gyre bit it does blow a lot of air acros the water surface

First I marked up my 1/2" plexiglass

After the rough cut, I drilled and tapped mounting holes for the fans

After spending some time with sand paper, files and a belt sander getting the straight parts straight and the round parts round I start finishing the edges with a router

Best helper in the worls woke up at the crack of noon to help out.

Next we used nylon machine screws to mount the Noctua NF-A14 iPPC-2000 5" industrial fans, IP52 certified water and dust protection to the Plexiglas

And here it is on the tank

Before building this setup, I used these fans with the bracket at the top of this post for proof-of-concept and it was remarkably effective. no need for a chiller and if left on, even with the halides I can cool the tank enough to turn the heaters on.

My Tank Build

So innovative! Great job! Hopefully this will keep the tank temp down during the heat wave.

I really like the look of the Giesemann fixture and didn’t want to crud it up. Lucky I found the euroquatics E5X blue pop lamps in 60”. Apperantly they are shipping again and they pop the corals hard. 1/2. The wattage of the T5 and just pop right in place. $170 shipped for a pair.

Question why use 1/2" acrylic? And where you get your pieces from?
What type of but do you use for polishing up with your router?

It’s a like a 24” span between the eurobraces, I wanted to be sure it didn’t sag.

I bought the pieces on ebay, just searched 1/2 cell cast clear and went page after page looking for an appropriate sized scrap. Was like $65 shipped.

I used the router to actually radius the edges. My hole saw is slightly smaller than the fan opening and it helps funnel the air through. On the outer edge, I know how long it takes to polish edges and the router made a nice uniformed frosted look in just a few minutes.

Really the only issue I’m seeing is that my BRS 50ml peristaltic ATO pump is having trouble keeping up with evaporation when the fans are on. Temp pull down is impressive.

So, when I finished the setup, the tank was 78.7, I turned on the halides and ran them with the fans for 3 hrs and the temp dropped to 78 degrees. No air conditioning on.

So... picked up a school of 5 yellow tangs from RAP. + the 12” vlamingi, 7” clown tang and the 4” Scopas.

The Scopas and Clown went after the yellows real hard for about 4 days, even with a mirror placed where the yellows were hanging out but id did confuse the 2 of them a bit and made it look like 10 yellows instead of 5. the yellows would help each other out and finally it seems the scopas and clown are giving it a rest. Still little scuffles here and there but it’s really settled down. The yellows have all taken a lot of fin nips but they are now grazing my algae and relaxing some. I’ll shoot some more photos with the halides on later

Tanks looking great. Schools of yellows is beautiful, look fat n healthy.
thanks,

They have really figured out their pecking order which leads to fewer scuffles. I know I have way too many tangs in the tank, 9 including vlamingi, clown, Scopas and 5 yellows but they are getting along well and all I have to do is run NoPox to keep up with the massive amount of food they require.

The yellows are doing great, almost no squabbling at all anymore. Clown tang and Scopas seem to have gotten over it. All the tattered fins have healed and it’s like they all gang up on me to try to get me to feed them constantly. I call them my “hungry hungry hippos” and have purchased a 1 gallon bucket of pellets for them. I’ve started NoPox and nitrates are holding at 12PPM, PO4 at 0.03

Even the anthies is thriving, which is surprising given how randomly I feed but he must have found a cache of copepods to munch on between feedings.

I need to put shades on the High vaulted windows that are flooding the tank with sunlight.

*sorry for cheesy music, just mute it.

A couple shot under blues.

I run a giesemann spectra and it’s halide + 4X 60” T5. Lucky I found these euroquatics E5X LED direct replacement lamps in a 60” version that work in my fixture. They peak at about 460NM. These are just quickly iPad shots

I took some TDS shots with a camera box I got fo Christmas. Some are under 2X 60” ATI blue plus + Euroquatics 60” E5X “blue Pop” direct T5 replacements. Some have those lights and 3 X Radiums. I was playing about and the otters are 250W the center is 400W

See if you can spot the difference. All the TDS photos used a yellow lens

In all honesty, and the photos don’t really capture it, I mostly prefer halides though there are a few things that really look their best under LED

Full tank shot, all the tangs begging for food

Nana coral, blueberry fields?, a something SPS, red planet and my wife’s clam

Purple stylo, green something, Steve Carroll blue ridge coral, Miami hurricane? And at the bottom, a small frame of pink setosa dodger blue gave me years ago.

Mostly hawkins echinata but there’s also my 2 red planets, some nana a pink furry from Scott.
