My Tank Build

Hey guys unfortunately my office got broken into last night. I showed up at 2am to meet with the cops and found out one of my staff forgot to turn off the auto top off to the reservoir. It brought the salinity down to 1.010 and flooded our office. I already did a 30g water change with higher salinity. Tank is still cloudy. I’m running RO at home and at the office to change another 70 which prob won’t happen Until afternoon. I’m running carbon as well. Any thing else I can do to minimize casualty? Most fish seem okay but most corals are slimming if not goners. All sps are gone :(

How big was the ato container? I would do a big water change Bc the tank will cycle from the die offs and toxin released from the dead corals

I’ll pick up some socks thanks! The ATO is around 5g. But the RO line continuous feed it for 5 days and gravity feed it directly to the tank. I’m guessing around 100-150g into a 300gallon system.

I would check parameters & stabilize any readings that are off balance, the low salt + death could have caused a big swings in parameters.

Friggen losers. Sorry Mike.

Do you mean they were filling the reservoir with RODI water? Wouldn't it have flooded the place while they were still there? Double wammy sorry dude.

There was just fish or corals too?
If there just fish you should be fine but with corals better to start taking the good one out ASAP

sorry about my first post. Running on 1 hr of sleep when I typed it. My staff was trying to help me out by filling up the reservoir with RODI. I wasn’t at the office fri and it was running low. Of course they forgot to set the timer and forgot to turn it off. My ATO container is taller than my sump, so when it’s full, the ATO continues to drain the water into the sump even with the tunze osmolator. The ro line somehow fell out of the ATO reservoir and onto the floor during the whole ordeal which was a complete blessing. The salinity could have gone down to lethal levels for the fish. My tank was jam packed with softies and leather. A handful of SPS. The water is still cloudy but there’s no “smell of death”. Is this a good sign?

fuh, sorry about the burglary... sucks about the ATO and tank... best to just do a huge water change... the fish will be okay... hopefully some corals will come back...

take some time off and get some sleep... times suck, and try not to make it the end of the world...

Oh man! So sorry to hear that. Would you be able to add a float valve to stop the flow of water once the reservoir is full

That is really rough. Make sure to try and match water temp being mixed with tank temp, get some bacteria to add, keep doing water changes, if you have an apex, invest in a leak detector, hope for the best.

Sorry mike, I hope you get some good rest after you’ve sorted all of this out. At least the break in brought you in to find the ATO issue.

That's a bummer all around, sorry to hear.

On a side note I gravity feed my sump as well. I got tired of timing it so I drilled and installed a float valve for my ro/di.

When the tank stabilizes shoot me a pm if you are going to try sticks again. I'll hook some up

Most of the corals are goners :( What ever showed any sign of life, I transferred to my other office tank. Good news is that some inverts are still kicking and most fish, including my 7 yo gold flake and regal angels are accounted for. Water still murky and I just performed another 70g water change. Threw in a couple of chemiclean blue. At this point, my goal is to keep all the fish alive.
