My name is Eddie and I am new to the Inland Empire in San Jacinto and was referred to this community by one your members Erick. Erick and a friend of his Omar were nice enough to come help me move my new tank (150 60x30x20) from my garage and into my house. It was something that was very much appreciated especially with all that is going on right now. Plans are to make this tank a mixed reef and try my luck with SPS at some point. I currently have a 90 gallon acrylic that just finished cycling and I have not decided if I am keeping it or if I will end up tearing it down and selling it. Looking forward to learning a lot from this community and hope to help someone someday the way some of your members helped me.

Considering tearing down and selling the 90 gallon depending on whether or not I decide to move the contents into the new 150. I used dry rock for the 90 gallon and really considering using live rock for the new one. View attachment 80875
Id say just transfer the 90 to the 150 and add a few pieces of real reef live rock. 2 tanks to have going at the same time could be a bit time consuming and might burn you out in the hobby. It did me a few years back. Also I’d suggested if you do get ocean live rock then put it in a quarantine tank a see what pest might be in it or even just buy some live rock from members here that are tearing down an established tank. Then quarantine that rock too for a month or so.

Yeah not looking like I will keep the 90 gallon up and running too much longer. Probably picking up a container and start cycling some live rock while I finish the stand, plumbing and lighting rig.

Welcome. 90 gallon looks good. Like suggested above, it’s a must to QT all animals. My personal suggestion would be to keep the 90 running & use it to QT fish that will be going into the 150, believe me that you will need to quarantine your fish. Once all fish are in the 150, you can scrap the 90. Dont go through the pain of dealing with infected fish in your new 150. My $0.02. Good luck.

Yes qt is the best practice but a 90 is a bit large. Also it might be a PITA to catch fish out of a 90g. A 90g qt would be great if your qting 6” tangs or angles. I run a 30g qt for fish and a 20g for corals and I still find it a PITA to do weekly or even bi-weekly water changes of the systems.

Think I'm gonna look at a 20-30 gallon for QT for now and see how it goes from there.
