I've been on this forum for a while now and seen prices fluctuate throughout the years. Obviously as this hobby grows in popularity and supply is limited it's going to come with higher prices.

All I read on the forum these days is people whining/complaining about paying higher prices.

Why wouldn't price increases make sense to some people? People expecting to pay the same prices as 5 years ago really pisses me off...

And I don't care what you paid for something back in 2014. It's not 2014 anymore...

It is quite logical, but there is something to say for paying high prices for on rare stuff (torches and maricultured tenuis)

There are still so many cheap corals as well. Beautiful corals that aren’t “hyped” right now that people almost give away. Duncan’s, mushrooms, candy canes, etc. follow the trends and you will overpay for everything. Like torches rn. It’s a bubble. EVERYONE HAS ALL THE TORCHES (Vendors) There is no scarcity, the market is artificially inflated due to hype. In 2-3 years they will be a third of the price.

the moral of this story is - don’t chase the hype and this can be a much more affordable hobby :)

The way I see it: if it is affordable and you want it then get it. If it’s not affordable to you then don’t buy it. I believe each to his own. I have seen some great coras for cheap, I have had fellow reefers give great deals and I’m pretty happy with what I have accumulated and I have nothing that I paid “high end” prices for.
