Hey everybody. Just wanted to say hello to everyone in the socalireefs community and show some pics of my setup. It’s a Red Sea reefer 350 I’ve had for about 6 months. Some of the stuff was transferred from my 40 gallon breeder and some from an old pico aquariums tank I’ve had for about 6 years. Here are some details about the system.
Red Sea reefer 350
2 Kessil a360x
2 h2pro cyclone powerheads
Coral box dosing pump
reef octopus 110 int skimmer
simplicity dc return pump
Tunze osmolator 3155 ato
2 150w heaters
Fish list:
Tomato clown (my pride of the tank. Have had him for 6 years)
3 Banggai cardinal
Sailfin tang
melanurus wrasse
Yellow Blotch Rabbitfish
Royal gramma
The heart of my system is my apex. I’ve been using an apex for years now to automate my systems and honestly couldn’t imagine not having one. I keep my setup pretty simple. I dose tropic Marin all for reef throughout the day to keep Calc/alk/mag in check. At night I manually dose 30ml of algae barn oceanmagik and every other day I dose 30ml of Red Sea ab+. Once a week or so I will target feed the corals with a combo of reef roids, reef chili, easy reefs sps, and wherever else I have lying around. I feed my fish daily probably to much because they are all a little on the thicker side. I’m actually pretty lazy about water changes. I’d say I probably do a 15% water change maybe every 3 weeks. I grow cheato in my refugium and it grows insanely fast. I have to take out about a food ball size ball of it every month and a half or so, but I can tell it definitely keeps my phosphates in check and helps clean the system. I don’t chase numbers, if something looks off I’ll check phosphate and alk but I just let the system do it’s thing. I’ve been battling bubble algae for a while, I had 3 emeralds that seemed to be keeping it at bay and it hasn’t really negatively affected the tank so I don’t stress on it too much. All my fish get along for the most part. The clown is definitely the boss of the tank, but they all seem to get along fine and nobody seems to much on the corals.
Anyway, that’s about it for the system. I won’t list all the corals but happy to discuss any of them.
Thanks for checking out my setup.
