So we were moving the tank into the house today to be set up. My buddy accidentally set down the tank on one of the corners and chipped a decent size piece off the left/front corner. I'm so BUMMED, been working on this build since November. The chip is about 1.5” but the silicone looks to be intact.

We have filled it with water and it looks good with no leaks whatsoever. I bought this tank used and it does have some scratches so I think this gives me an excuse to just order a brand new one. For anyone that wants it, I’m asking $200 OBO (TANK ONLY) I have suctions and can help load it if you bring another 2-3 guys.

You can come check it out anytime, I’m in Escondido 92027. Let me know 760-580-2996 Ben

I haven't had an SC tank in a few years but I recall getting a decent discount on my 100g for picking it up. They seemed like good peeps, contact them and maybe they'll work with you a bit?

Have you checked the cost? An aquarium builder would replace it the same way they built it. Be no difference in integrity of the tank. To think so would be silly. The process is the process.
Hundreds of dollars is hundreds of dollars towards something else. Unless you don’t like the tank itself for some reason and you actually want something designed or the layout different.
Millions of cars have been in and out of the body shop on the road. Pick the right body shop and get quality work. Same goes with a tank builder.

My Tank Build

I may offer some light on the subject. I am the idiot that rebuilt a Lee-mar 187g.
If it’s just the front pane on glass that’s going to run you around $300 just for the 60”X24”X0.5” starphire glass. But here’s the issue you just can’t replace the front pane. The whole tank will need to be broke down and re-siliconed. New silicone won’t adhere to old silicone. So every piece will need to be cut apart and scraped clean of old silicone. This process will not be cheap because it is very labor intense.
Now my issue and why I rebuild my tank was cause I wanted custom features and that was going to take time. Crystal Dynamic quoted a 6 to 8 month build time because they had so many orders to fill. Well I didn’t have 6-8 months to wait. It took me 3 months to completely rebuild the Lee-mar. Here was the perk tho, a brand new 187g tank was going to run me $3300. It cost me $1300 to buy and rebuild the tank. But I did do all the labor.
Here’s my build thread

I pretty much documented everything I did on rebuilding my tank.

There you go. Straight from the horses mouth and with documentation. But the final choice is yours, or your wife’s. I personally wouldn’t rebuild my tank. I’d pay someone.

Wow!!! That’s pretty crazy, great job emac. I don’t think I have the skills nor the patience. I will probably reach out to Steve and order a new tank. But what am I going to do with this bad boy, hoping someone could use is for something.

If you can’t sell it. You could always donate it to Steve Garrett he makes frag discs from old tanks
