So, several days ago I posted an ad for a 40g (or similar sized tank) with stand. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, as I only would use it to move and hold my current livestock in a nano for a new build that I'm putting together. I offered to buy or rent/borrow from someone with the hopes of only using it for a month or so. I know it was a tall order, especially not knowing everyone here on the forum. I figured I would just have to buy something and move along, no biggie.
The day of my post I received an offer to buy a tank with a wooden stand for $200 and it didn't look new at all. I did post in my ad that I wanted to stay around $100 or less, but obviously there's always someone trying to make a buck from someone else (most likely a new reefer or someone ignorant about the hobby). I won't reveal who this person is, but he proceeded to drop the price to $100 for just the tank, mind you, the tank he was offering me was in fact a 40b and it looked used. After I made him aware that you could buy a new one for $55, he lowered his price to $50. WTF? You can see how new reefers just getting into the hobby can get scammed in a heartbeat by these guys, it's a real shame to be honest. But, here's the good part of the story and something that's worth sharing for all. Another reefer, who I'll acknowledge now, @Speaker73 was kind enough to offer up his converted 40b AIO with stand to me, to use for free. Having never met one another or really interacting among this forum, this is pretty trusting and generous of him. I offered to give him some money and frags, etc for his offer, but he refused. All I can say is, thank you, thank you and thank you! It's people like him that make me want to pay it forward even more. I'll do everything I can to repay him for his kindness, but I also wanted to share this with everyone, hoping that some of you will be like @Speaker73 and pay it forward. I know I will, as I always try to pay it forward as much as I can.
Happy reefing everyone!

Do you need rocks? I have some, albeit it needs to be bleached. But if so, it’s yours.
Just curious why the rocks need to be bleached? Die off, aptasia? Getting some rocks from a fellow reefer and I'm debating on if I should bleach too.

Also OP, thanks for being an honest and kind reefer!

Thanks, but I'm good with rock and sand, just needed a temp tank in order to move and hold everything while I get the new nano build up and running. I would've just used the current tank and a bin to do the transfer, but I need to clear out the current tank altogether.
I honestly just wanted to share a simple story and how this reefing community rocks! I've been at this for decades, so I've seen my share of horror stories and wanted to share the good side.

This is a great post. Its always nice to see that this is still a community. I also appreciated the contrast that was drawn between people who try to exploit the forums and people that try to build it.

I don’t know about others, but I pay attention to these users referenced in these threads, whether good or bad. As a person that does use this forum to sell things I appreciate when I know who I’m dealing with. I always give preference to people who contribute, and avoid dealing with people who have had negative feedback (from contributing members). To me, it’s just not worth the money to deal with a headache - this is a hobby and would rather give things away to people I like.

I'm just glad someone is using it! Lol.

There were a lot of people that helped me get restarted in the hobby a few years ago and I'll never forgot their help and generosity. There are literally too many to list and in this age of the individual I want to foster a sense of community and giving. And to be honest my wife was bugging me to get it out of the house!

Aqua Remora. One of the top best skimmers in my opinion still to date. What got me started in my own reefing history. Came with a tank I bought not knowing what it was or how it worked. Never saw a filter like it, researched it and convinced me to try saltwater instead of setting tank up the as a freshwater tank. Haven’t had a freshwater tank since.
