Loving the lights so far. 5 giving pretty good coverage on a tank this large. Tank pretty much on its tail end of its ugly stage. Added some corals and hooked up my apex and trident this week. Will start dosing kalkwasser soon. Alk stable at 9.5, CA 500 Mag at 1275. Also breaking down my other 300 and adding the existing fish to this tank this week before someone picks up the tank. Any advice on adding 2 yellow tangs, purple tang, vlamingi, lavender tang, hippo tang to this existing group of fish?

Hah thanks guys. Getting ready for the big fish move today! Any recommendations on preventing a big war zone? Moving 2 additional yellow tangs, purple tang, vlamingi, lavender tang, hippo tang, larger watanabei angel and 4 additional clowns on top of my already established clown trio

I don't think you will have any problems when you have such a big tank. The fish is not even going to be in the same neighborhood.! LOL.

The framing is finally done! The doors weren’t ideal but it’s nice to see it in a finished state. I ended up going with 5x orphek icon. Shout out to Danny at Kung fu corals for the lights. Only mounted 2 ATM. Will show off my fish room once I get everything organized. View attachment 96451

living the dream!!! Imo when introducing a lot of fish I think of it as boot camp , you get along with everyone at boot camp because your all in it at the same time , if someone joins later they are kinda an outcast and get bullied, so put them all in at the same time! That way they are all on equal footing

So it finally happened! The transition was fairly smooth. Unfortunately, I had one casualty, a large blue reef chromis. Not your typical blue green chromis, but this guy was a beauty. Anyways, I netted him out and put him a 30 gallon brute with all the other fish and suddenly he started to grasp for air and his jaws loved. He died a few mins later. Not sure what happen.

Surprisely the yellow tangs all got along and the only fish that was bullied most of the day was a purple tang. Fortunately the next day he was out and about with the 4 yellows. I will be quite nervous adding more tangs in the future. Tank looks packed already!

Why you gotta be so far from OC? I would get my eyes checked more often if I get to check this bad boy out.

Hey guys, wow it’s been 1.5 months since the big fish transfer. I wish I could report the reef has been flourishing but it’s been far from it. Shortly after the transfer, the tank had a big fluke break out. My two yellow tangs ended up with a severe bacterial infection as a result. I had to tear down the tank just to catch and treat them in a hospital tank. I’m on my 5th and final treatment of Prazipro and things are finally looking better. Due to user error (timing of 2nd dose/3rd), the fluke was always able to stick around and reinfect. My two yellow tangs are back in the display for the final dose. I am very fortunate I did not lose any fish during the ordeal. On top of this, the tank went through a nasty Dino/cyano outbreak associated with the new tank syndrome.

Shoot me a pm. I’ll send you some phyto. Should help with the Dino/cyano issue.

IME it is especially good for new tanks to do a regiment of phyto dosing. Get some populations established. IMHO it is just as important as bacteria dosing.

Since you have a large tank and went through the ordeal of trying to catch fish, let me share a little trick I learned. Start feeding your fish once or twice a week in a large net. Just put the food in the net and the net in the tank.

After awhile the fish get used to the net and when you put the net in, the fish swim right into it. It saves tearing apart a tank to get a specific fish.

I learned the trick from Steve Weast in 2006-7, when he had his 450g running. Guy could pull any fish in that tank at any time. It was like magic when I first saw it.

Another Gem of Information on SCR. Makes absolute sense, like the trainers at the zoo. Condition the animals and reduce stress when you need to examine or treat them. I am gonna start doing this asap as I hope to upgrade tanks soon. Thanks for sharing!
